Accessibility Toolbar

Visitors adapt your website to their needs

Text size, contrast, colors, reading mode, read aloud, focus, motion and images – eight tools in one calm dialog, right on your page.

A floating button opens the EZZE WCAG Pro toolbar. Every setting is reversible, stays in the visitor’s browser and changes neither your source code nor your database. Included in all plans.

  • Eight visitor tools, enabled individually
  • Keyboard operable, 44px targets, bottom sheet on phones
  • Preferences stay local – no cloud, no tracking

The visitor tools

Eight tools, one dialog

The overview shows all enabled tools as cards. Functions with several options open a detail view in the same dialog – never a dialog inside a dialog. Every active state is conveyed by text and icon, never by color alone.

  • Text size

Minus and plus switch between 100, 110, 125, 150 and 200%. Real text sizes and line heights, no visual zoom – content reflows cleanly.

  • Contrast

Default, Increased · Light, Increased · Dark or System. Semantic colors for text, links, forms and focus, without inverting the page.

  • Colors

Original, Muted, Grayscale or custom text and background colors with a contrast rating. Underline links, emphasize controls.

  • Reading mode

Main content in full screen: sans-serif or serif font, line length, line spacing and a light, warm or dark background.

  • Read aloud

Main content, current section or selected text with a browser voice. Speed, voice and a player that stays visible when the toolbar closes.

  • Focus

High-contrast focus ring, additional yellow focus highlight, reading line and reading mask – without changing the focus order.

  • Motion

One switch suppresses animations, transitions, parallax and smooth scrolling. Progress and status indicators remain.

  • Images

Hide images using the exceptions and replacement color set by the administrator – separate from the color modes.

How it works

On your website in a few minutes

No third-party scripts, no overlay service: the toolbar is part of the plugin and ships with your settings.

  1. Step 1: Enable the toolbar

In the plugin settings you enable the toolbar globally and control desktop and mobile display separately – including the mobile breakpoint.

  2. Step 2: Choose the tools

Every visitor tool can be switched on or off individually, grouped into core tools, reading and focus, and additional tools.

  3. Step 3: Design and try it out

Customize trigger, panel and color scheme (from Basic). With “Try the toolbar” you test the real toolbar on a sample page.

  4. Step 4: Visitors use the toolbar

The floating trigger opens exactly one dialog. All preferences are reversible and stay in the visitor’s browser.

Profiles and storage

Set once, find again on the next visit

The “Profile” button in the toolbar header opens ready-made support profiles and the management of your own profiles. Only tools you have enabled for the website are applied.

  • Four support profiles

Vision support, Reading support, Keyboard and focus, and Low-stimulus view combine several tools with one click – as a starting point, not a diagnosis.

  • Session, device or your own name

Preferences apply to this session only or are remembered on the device. Up to ten named profiles can be saved, loaded, renamed and deleted.

  • Reset all with Undo

One click restores all defaults and stops Read aloud and Reading mode. “Undo” is available for twelve seconds.

Reading mode and read aloud

Read and listen without leaving the page

Both tools work with the real content of your page: Reading mode prefers the main element, Read aloud builds a queue of headings, paragraphs, lists and tables from it – each in the language of its section.

  • Reading mode without distraction

The reader takes the main content – headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, tables and image alternatives – and leaves out navigation, sidebars, ads and cookie notices.

  • Read aloud never starts on its own

Only “Start reading” produces speech. The player shows progress and the current text, highlights the paragraph on the page and stays usable when the toolbar closes.

  • No cloud, no page text in transit

Read aloud uses the speech service of the browser or operating system. EZZE WCAG Pro sends neither the request nor the page text to an endpoint of its own.

Settings for administrators

You decide what visitors see

The toolbar settings define which tools appear and how trigger and panel look. The colors of the open toolbar are contrast-checked in both color schemes – visitor preferences never recolor the toolbar itself.

  • Availability in all plans

Enable the toolbar globally, desktop and mobile separately, mobile breakpoint, every tool individually, reading mask separate from the reading line, footer with a link to the accessibility statement.

  • Visual customization from Basic

Trigger position, offset, shape, radius, shadow and colors; panel position, title, close button and overlay; fixed light or dark color scheme, radius and typography.

  • Score tooltip from Plus

Hovering over the closed trigger shows the saved score of the accessibility test. It stays hidden while the toolbar is open.

Honestly placed

What the toolbar does – and what it does not replace

The toolbar adds personal preferences to a good implementation. It is not an overlay that promises accessibility, and it does not make a website automatically WCAG-conformant.

What the toolbar does

  • Personal preferences for text size, contrast, colors, focus, motion and reading
  • Reading mode and read aloud from the real page content, without cloud
  • Keyboard help with the controls and shortcuts that actually exist

What it does not replace

  • Semantic HTML, labels and keyboard access in the source code
  • Alternative texts, captions and fixes to theme or content
  • The accessibility test – it finds what visitors cannot fix themselves

Tip

Check the configured toolbar on desktop, at 390px and 320px and at 200% zoom – and let the accessibility test find the actual barriers in the source code.

Good to know

Questions about the toolbar?

Plans, WCAG conformance, storage, read aloud, colors and the toolbar button.

1. Which plans include the toolbar?

The toolbar with all visitor tools is part of the plugin and included in all plans, including the Free plan. From Basic you get visual customization of trigger, panel and color scheme; from Plus the score tooltip on the trigger.

2. Does the toolbar make my website WCAG-conformant?

No. The toolbar gives visitors personal preferences for text size, contrast, colors, focus, motion and reading. It does not repair missing semantics, labels, alternative texts or keyboard operation in the source code. That is what the accessibility test is for.

3. Where are visitor preferences stored?

Only in the visitor’s browser: “This session only” uses sessionStorage, “Remember on this device” uses localStorage. Named profiles never leave the browser. No visitor data is sent to EZZE or to your WordPress database.

4. Does Read aloud send page text to a cloud service?

No. Read aloud uses the speech service of the browser or operating system. EZZE WCAG Pro sends neither the read-aloud request nor the page text to an endpoint of its own. Depending on the selected voice, the browser vendor may generate speech online. If the browser provides no speech output, the toolbar shows “Not available”.

5. Does the toolbar change the colors of its own interface?

No. Contrast and color modes only affect page content; the open toolbar stays contrast-checked in its light or dark color scheme. Images and videos are only filtered with the “Include media” option, which is off by default.

6. Can visitors hide the toolbar button?

Yes. “Hide toolbar button” hides the trigger for 24 hours, 7 days or until it is restored manually. Keyboard users bring it back with Alt + Shift + A or via the focusable restore control.

Accessibility toolbar for WordPress – preferences instead of an overlay

Many people read better with larger text, more contrast, calm colors or without animations. The EZZE WCAG Pro accessibility toolbar gives visitors this choice right on your WordPress website: a floating button opens a dialog with text size, contrast, colors, reading mode, read aloud, focus, motion and images. All settings are reversible and stay in the visitor’s browser.

Unlike overlay services, the toolbar loads no third-party script and promises no conformance. It changes real text sizes instead of zooming the page, uses semantic colors instead of inverting the page, and its keyboard help explains only controls that really exist. Every control is at least 44 × 44 pixels; on phones the toolbar opens as a bottom sheet.

Controlled by administrators, included in all plans

You define which tools appear, where the trigger sits and whether the footer links to your accessibility statement. From Basic you customize shape, colors and color scheme; from Plus the trigger shows the saved score of your accessibility test. Read aloud uses the browser’s speech service – EZZE WCAG Pro sends no page text to its own servers.

The toolbar complements the accessibility test and the accessibility inspector: it neither tests nor repairs, but lets visitors use your already accessible website the way that suits them best.
